Oral History Program

LRJF has collaborated with Cracker Tales, Inc. to chronicle the oral histories of pioneers, ranchers and citrus growers in Indian River County.

The Foundation hosted two nationally renowned authors to Vero Beach in collaboration with The Emerson Center.  The “Special Engagement Series” featured authors Greg Mortensen “Three Cups of Tea” in 2009, and in 2010, Dr. Rory Stewart, author of “The Places in Between” and “The Prince of the Marshes“ providing a rare glimpse into the current affairs of Afghanistan and its peoples.

Vero Beach Book Festival

Thanks in great part to the support of The Bookmark Society, we introduced a new program to our community, the Vero Beach Book Festival. The Vero Beach Book Festival is a celebration of reading that offers no-cost author events to cultivate a love of reading. In 2005 the 1st Annual Book Festival brought over 50 authors to our community, drawing an attendance of over 6,000 people and winning a front page “success story” as well as a “thumbs up” on the editorial page of the Press Journal. Visit the website for information on previous festivals.
